Goldfishes belong to the Cyprinidae family and most of them were originally found in regions such as China, Japan and other Southeast Asia. They were later introduced into Europe and spread all over the world. In the particular case of the gorgeous Goldfishes, they come from Japan even though they are now bred in lots of places. They take their names from the Japanese Ryukyu Islands where they were discovered. They are normally rather small fishes but can also reach truly impressive lengths and weights when adults.

Ryukin Goldfishes are hardy and resistant animals and their feeding should never be excessive since they tend to have digestive problems and can eventually die from over feeding.
