Platies Guide
Platy fishes are freshwater fishes that belong to the Poeciliidae family. They are live bearers fishes, which mean that they keep their eggs inside their mouth until new specimens are born. They tend to give birth up to 50 new specimens each time, although they don’t tend to reproduce easily in captivity.
Most of the existent Platy types are to be found in the Caribbean areas of Mexico as well as in other Central American countries. They are available in lots of sparkling and shinny colors that have been developed with time by interbreeding processes.
They are normally medium sized fishes, reaching up to six to seven centimeters in length. They are peaceful and easy to keep in home aquariums or fish tanks. They are hardy and prefer warm temperatures of water. Platy fishes are without a doubt a great option for any fish tank since they don’t require too specific living conditions other than the ones mentioned.
