Gourami Species
Gourami fishes are freshwater fishes naturally found in several areas of Asia, principally India, Korea and Pakistan. They belong to the family of Osphronemidae which also belongs to the Perciformes order and this means that they have a perch like look.
There are almost one hundred species for this family of fishes and among them we can find Betta fishes, Macropodus, Spotted Gourami, Dwarf Gourami, Pygmy Gourami, Moonlight Gourami and Elephant Ear Gourami, just to mention a few. Gourami fishes are really colorful and varied in terms of size and shape and they can easily become a great addition to any aquarium, especially since in the last years they have gained quite a lot of popularity among fish tank owners.
Gouramis are tranquil creatures but sometimes they can have aggressive behavior towards other smaller fishes so it is always sensible to ask which the possible compatibilities are and which fishes get better with Gouramis.
Just like most freshwater fishes, they won’t require too specific care and while you provide them with the proper environment where to live, they won’t create any trouble to you.
