About Bettas
Betta fishes are small and colorful fishes which come from the Gourami family, a family in which you will find freshwater perciform fishes. They usually come from places such as the Middle East, India, Korea and some other parts of Asia. Betta fishes are to be found in different sizes, but the range will most of the times stay between 1 inch and 5 and a half inches long.
This fish can be categorized in lots of breeds and species among which we can find the following ones:
Akarensis, antoni, balunga, chini, ibanorum, pinguis, albimarginata, channoides, anabatoides, bellica, simorum, brownorum, burdigala, coccina, livida, miniopinna, persephone, rutilans, tussyae and uberis, which are just a few. Betas are among the unique fishes that can breathe atmospheric air and this is quite a distinctive feature.
Some species of Betta fishes are currently categorized as endangered and vulnerable towards fishers and the black market, so if you want to have one of these fishes at home, please make sure that they haven’t been taken from wild shoals.
