Fish Tanks

We can say that there is no rule to why fishes are territorial or aggressive. You can find both freshwater and saltwater aggressive fishes and this can certainly become a problem because you may find that the fishes or your choice are not compatible after putting them together and watching the results. In most cases, aggressive fishes need to be kept in large fish tanks in order to live alongside other fishes.

This is the reason why it is always recommendable to learn which fishes are aggressive and violent in order to avoid them or to keep them alone if you still want to have them. In this sense, you should also remember that aggressive fishes may not only be aggressive towards other fishes but also towards you or any other person so you should think carefully the pros and the cons of counting with territorial fishes in your fish tank.

However, it is also important to say that many aggressive fishes are extremely beautiful and sparkling and they can therefore become true temptations to those owners who want to enjoy vibrant and shinny fishes. In the end, it is all about learning how to deal with them so the best thing to do is to seek for professional advice before actually getting them. Here we give you some options of aggressive fishes for you to take into account.

One of the most aggressive fish is the Red Devil (which already gives you an idea with its name). They are really violent and biting fishes but since they are gorgeous red creatures they are definitely something to try if you want to admire unique colors. They are best alone. Another wonderful fish is the Snakehead, which is truly beautiful and special. However, they are forbidden as pets in some American states for being considered invasive species that can damage the natural ecosystem.

Another example is the Arowana fish, a truly amazing golden fish. They are not as aggressive as other species if they are kept in communities of more than five Arowanas. Oscars fishes are also popularly seen as aggressive fishes but they are not as aggressive as other species, even though they may jump out of the water in search for food. Nevertheless, you should always control them if you are keeping them alongside other peaceful fishes.

Finally, you have the Pacus fishes, relatives to the Piranhas and rather violent fishes that can get to reach important sizes. Even though they are known as “vegetarian Piranhas” for their herbivore alimentation habits, you should consider that they count with large jaws that can easily make them eat smaller fishes even without intention.
